My New AI Agent Just Might Help You Keep Your New Year's Resolutions

We've all been using AI more for a variety of tasks (well, most of us anyway). I've been using a number of tools, and have done things from creating my own AI avatar (more on that in an upcoming post) to launching a generative AI agent (app / bot / etc.) based on "The Other 'F' Word: How Smart Leaders, Teams and Entrepreneurs Put Failure to Work" book I wrote with John Danner.

And since we are in the season of New Year's Resolutions, I thought it would be good see how it tackles this challenging issue. As John and I discovered while researching our book, approximately 88% of New Year's resolutions fail. (!!)

My “Tech-Centric-But-Not-Entirely-Tech” Predictions for 2025

A couple of weeks ago I was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, speaking to a group of investors, entrepreneurs, and corporate about driving innovation, entrepreneurship, value creation, and growth in the fast-changing Saudi economy. They were interested in my perspective for 2025, both globally and through the lens of the US/Silicon Valley, so I assembled a Top 10 list of predictions for 2025. Given our audience and its tech/startup focus, my predictions have a tech-heavy orientation. And given our recent US presidential elections and the fast-changing political and global landscape, I also provided some broader thoughts on what 2025 may bring as well…

“Fusion is not a typical bet.” My interview on venture funding prospects for fusion energy, with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

The promise of clean, inexpensive and non-carbon-producing electricity is the energy equivalent of the Holy Grail, and one which scientists are actively pursuing as the impacts of climate change become clearer every day. But the science remains uncertain and the objective elusive. When will it happen? Is it possible?

I recently had a conversation on this topic with Dan Drollette of The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists. He was particularly interested to get my take on investing in nuclear technology, and its intriguing prospects…

"How hard can it be to take down Facebook?" with Arnaud Henneville-Wedholm (video)

Mark Coopersmith has a fireside chat with Arnaud Henneville-Wedholm about Arnaud's 6-year journey as co-founder of a startup whose mission was to create a *better* option to Facebook. We discuss Arnaud's takeaways from that experience, and delve into the book Arnaud wrote about that failed venture: "How Hard Can It Be: Startup Lessons From Trying (And Failing) To Take Down Facebook." (Answer: pretty hard).

Corona Postpona

Happy summer. And what a summer it is. Heat waves across the U.S., exacerbated by climate change, as we in the West endure extreme drought and water rationing, and an even worse fire season than usual. At least we have plenty of masks for those smokey days (always looking for that silver lining).

Gravity, and how it can be a force for good (video)

Boeing has been in freefall for awhile now (“freefall” is probably a bad analogy for an aviation company), and this week announced their biggest loss ever and yet another delay in their space program and in the launch of their next big jet. In our latest Other F Word podcast, John and I dissect what went wrong, what to learn from it, and what we would recommend they do. Plus John riffs on the concept of “gravity” and how he can be used as a “force for good.”

New Year's resolutions (video)

I just published episode #2 (!!) of the "Other 'F' Word Podcast," where my co-author John Danner and I discuss/dissect/disagree re: current failures, what we can learn from them, and how to bounce back and improve. All in about 10 minutes. This week's topics: New Years' Resolutions; the insurrection and riots in Washington, and the botched painfully slow COVID vaccine rollout. Check it out on YouTube, with expanded distribution coming soon.

I just launched a new podcast based on my book "The Other 'F' Word," co-authored with my UC Berkeley colleague John Danner. And we cohost the podcast as well. We figured if NOW wasn't a good time to learn from our collective failures (goodbye and good riddance 2020), there might never be such a time. Check it out.
